In healthcare, those in leadership positions are faced with the complex task of ensuring safe and effective patient care. Systems are under tremendous strain as healthcare resources (human and financial) decline, and demands for healthcare increase.  Nurse leaders are bombarded with new mandates and policies, which at times seem to compete and conflict with safe, quality care delivery. In this module, you will be introduced to key leadership theories and learn how leadership is distinguished from management. You will use these theories to better understand your own leadership style. Finally, you will learn about the role of power and politics in the context of nursing leadership.
