Learning Objectives

At the end of this module, learners should be able to:

  1. Understand the role of the nurse leader as it relates to retention and recruitment, and understand the interrelationship of retention and recruitment.
  2. Define retention, and related terms, and have a solid understanding of factors influencing retention outcomes in the workplace.
  3. Identify strategies to promote retention in the workforce.
  4. Gain an understanding of value-based interviewing, creating interview questions, and components of onboarding that can support retention.
  5. Identify considerations for unique healthcare worker groups, including new nurses, unregulated care providers, internationally educated nurses, and rural workplaces.
