2.1.7 Caring Essentials Case Study 1 Feedback

The following feedback for the chapter case study is meant to provide guidance for your own practice. The answers provided are suggestions, and you may have additional ideas which are not covered below. Then, the resolution of the case as it occurred in real life is provided for your reference.

What professional did you identify? What made you choose this professional to help?

  • An occupational therapist is the most likely answer. The client needed assistance in dressing essentials. Occupational Therapy helps people learn how to complete tasks of daily living.

Does this professional have the knowledge and access to offer assistive devices?

  • Yes, the occupational therapist has many options for equipment to use in walking, sitting, dressing, grooming, driving, etc.

In your role to assist the client how will you need to be involved with the orders of the professional?

  • It will be important to understand the way equipment works when used for the client, to learn to allow the client time to complete tasks on their own instead of having them done for the client.
