12 H5P: Reusing and Sharing H5P Content

By the end of this chapter, you will be able to:

  • Control how your H5P interactive is reused or not.
  • Reuse H5P interactives in Pressbooks.

Allowing/Disabling Reuse of Your Interactive

At the bottom or to the right of the H5P editor, you will see a Display Options box. The following options are available:

  • Allow users to download the content: To allow downloads of your content as an .h5p file to use or modify on other sites.
  • Display Embed button: To allow embedding of your content as an iframe on other sites.
  • Display Copyright button: To display the associated copyright and licensing information.

Uploading Content Created Elsewhere to the H5P Studio

You may use eCampusOntario H5P Studio to share or modify H5P content created on other sites. First, download the H5P content you wish to share by selecting the “reuse” button at the bottom of the module. If this option is unavailable, the author has not made the content available for modification. Then, visit eCampusOntario H5P Studio and select “Create” from the top menu bar. Select “Upload” and choose the downloaded H5P files from your local computer. The interactive and any associated metadata will then be available for you to share or modify.

Import H5P Activities into Pressbooks

You can also import H5P activities you’ve downloaded into Pressbooks.

To upload an H5P activity from your computer into Pressbooks:

  1. Click H5P Content > Add New from your book’s dashboard menu.
  2. Click Upload above the Search bar in the H5P hub.
  3. Click on No file chosen.
  4. A window will pop up.
  5. Choose the .h5p file you want to upload.
  6. Click Use. This will install or update the H5P libraries if necessary.
  7. Click Create. The activity has been added to your book and is ready to include in a chapter.
