Conestoga’s OER Project Workflow (This is being updated)

Learning Objectives

By the end of this chapter, you will be able to:

  • Identify the main phases of the OER creation process that we use here at Conestoga.

OER Production Workflow

The following OER production framework, based on an instructional design framework, depicts the major steps that OER projects (major adaptations and creations) typically go through:

Priming phase

The Priming Phase is the first stage in the planning of your project. Complete training, research OER in your subject area, and book a consultation with the OER Consultant.

Pre-production phase

Congratulations, you have received approval for your project and are ready to prepare! The Pre-Production Phase is the second phase in Conestoga’s OER Production Workflow. The goal of this phase is to complete the details of the project and complete technical training in H5P and the Pressbooks publishing platform.

Design phase

The Design Phase is the third stage in Conestoga’s OER Production workflow. The goal of the Design phase is to create content and determine how you will present that content in an engaging way to your students.

Development phase

In the fourth phase, the goal is to continue to refine content and add interactives, media, and images. Review and revise with collaborators to ensure a consistent flow and avoid duplication of content. It is recommended that when one chapter of content is completed, submit it to the library technologist for accessibility and copyright checks to avoid duplicating any errors in further chapters.

Publishing and post-publishing phases

In the Publishing Phase, your project will be submitted to the eCampus Ontario Open Library Portal, presented to various open collections and repositories for dissemination, and indexed in the library catalogue and institutional repository. It is time to integrate your project into the course outline and eConestoga course shell.

Review phase

The Review Phase is the sixth stage in Conestoga’s OER Production workflow. The review phase is important for the sustainability of your resource. Gather feedback from students, peers, and other users of your OER and make changes to your project on that feedback to keep your project current and credible.
