Questions: WBS

Digging the Foundation will take 32 hours and the remaining cost will be 2560 dollars. Installing the Rebar will take 8 hours and the remaining cost will be 780 dollars. Pouring the Concrete will take 24 hours and the remaining cost will be 2000 dollars.

Decomposition Exercises

Follow the steps below to decompose the project into major deliverables, sub-deliverables and activities/work packages.

  1. List the highest level requirements/deliverables
  2. Break up each high level requirement into sub-deliverables. (Hint: deliverables and sub-deliverables will be nouns.) Keep breaking down sub-deliverables until you are at the lowest level that still makes sense
  3. Break down each of the lowest sub-deliverables into work packages or activities
  4. Review work packages and WBS to make sure the project is complete. Ask yourself, if you “add up” all the work packages, sub-deliverables, and deliverables, would your project be complete? If not, then you are missing a deliverable or work package.

Exercise 1

Create a WBS for the production of a bicycle. Try to break down to lowest sub-deliverable.

Exercise 2

Create a WBS for a Thanksgiving Day Dinner
