Overview:

MODULE 2 introduces sampling collection and storage, as well as various testing methods in forensic chemistry and biology labs, such as presumptive methods for detection of illicit drugs, as well as confirmatory methods, such as GC-MS and LC-MS. Illustrations of using such methods in practical applications, literature, news, and CanLII cases is included. In this module, 4 chapters have been developed: sample collection and storage; presumptive testing; confirmatory testing; interpretation and reporting. Each chapter includes an interactive presentation and a podcast episode. This module will ensure that the learning objective, focused on data collection, analysis, reporting and interpretation is met.

Learning Goals:

Upon completion of this module, you should be able to:

  • identify proper sample collection and storage techniques
  • define presumptive or confirmatory testing
  • correlate presumptive testing analysis with interpretation
  • analyze confirmatory testing data and make interpretations
