Hamilton Community Legal Clinic
  • “is a community based not for profit agency whose diverse team of caring professionals and volunteers provides legal services to low income individuals and communities to promote access to justice and to improve quality of life”.

    • We provide legal advice on housing matters to tenants. We do not provide any advice to landlords.
      • Depending on the case, we can:
        • Advise you on your rights and the process for enforcing your rights;
        • Help you defend against your landlord’s application for eviction;
        • Assist you with completing an application to the LTB to enforce your rights through our “Forms Clinic”;
        • Assist with revocation of your subsidy; and/or
        • Represent you at your LTB hearing.

    • The Immigration Team provides summary legal advice regarding refugee claim process, family class sponsorships, permanent residence, citizenship, temporary resident visa extensions, pre-removal risk assessments and humanitarian & compassionate applications.
    • We may consider legal representation at the Immigration Appeal Division and Federal Court in a limited number of cases based on financial eligibility and merit.
    • They do not provide help filling out forms.

  • A non-profit organization committed to helping Ontarians with their everyday civil legal needs.
    • This organization is staffed by volunteer lawyers who provide you with some basic information on your legal questions.
    • They are not your lawyers and will not provide you with legal representation.

Canadian Centre for Housing Rights (CCHR)
  • An organization that works with tenants mainly by telephone and email.
  • Their services include:
    • are being discriminated against when looking for housing.
    • are being harassed.
    • need accommodation for a human rights reason, such as a disability.
    • want general information about human rights or the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.

The Ontario Legal Information Center
  • This is an Ottawa based organization, but they will provide a consultation to residents from all over Ontario.
  • Provides a confidential free 30-minute consultation with a lawyer.
    • They will provide legal information and referrals.

Law Society Referral Service
  • The Law Society of Ontario has an online Law Society Referral Service that gives you the name of a lawyer or licensed paralegal who will give free legal advice for up to 30 minutes in any area of law.
