Campus Student Employment Program (CSEP)

Mohawk is excited to launch the Campus Student Employment Program (CSEP) for Fall 2023!  This is a great opportunity to connect students with meaningful experiential work opportunities on campus.

Student Eligibility and Process
  • We anticipate opening applications to students during the first week of September.
  • To be eligible, students must:
    • Be registered in a full-time post-secondary program or a continuing education diploma or certificate program
    • Complete the CSEP Financial Assistance Profile and demonstrate financial need (Mandatory)
    • Be in good academic standing
    • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN), and
    • Have a valid work permit (International students only)
  • Continuing Education students must be registered full-time in a certificate or diploma program and be in good academic standing.
  • If a student drops to part-time status or withdraws at any time in the semester, they will no longer qualify to work in the semester.
  • Second Career and part-time students are not eligible for CSEP-funded position.
Resume & Interview Prep

It is highly recommended that students consider completing the Future Ready Premium Program Micro-Certificate through Student and Graduate Employment to help with resume review, cover letter prep, and interview skills.  Students can visit the Student and Graduate Employment website to learn more.

Compensation
  • Hourly wage is based on the Part-Time Collective Agreement Pay scale
  • CSEP positions are funded through Tuition Set Aside (TSA) dollars.  We adhere to the Ministry’s directive on TSA funding.
Supervision
  • Hiring Managers must adhere to the processes and guidelines outlined in the Hiring Manager Process posted on the CSEP website.
  • Students must be managed by Administrative staff.

Speak to your Hiring Manager about:

  • Safety rules that must be observed while at work.
  • Workspace and technology.
  • How to record time worked (especially if you miss a pay submission period).
  • Lunchtime and breaks.
  • Overtime policy.
  • Confidentiality – review how to access and store sensitive and confidential information.

How many hours can I work per week?

CSEP hours range by position and semester. Review your contract for further details.

Timesheets and Pay Schedule

  • All students must submit their hours worked through the MyMohawk portal to process their pay on time.
  • All positions are paid the minimum wage.
  • Students are not paid for sick days.
  • Students will be paid for holidays that fall on days the student is regularly scheduled to work, while on contract. The holidays may include Family Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, etc. The holidays paid will depend on the contract duration and the regularly scheduled hours for the day.

Contract length

Contract dates and length are indicated directly on the contract and range from 10-14 weeks per semester.  Questions regarding contract length, and start/end dates, can be directed to your Hiring Manager. Contracts can be terminated at any time at the hiring manager’s discretion.

Staff discounts

CSEP students are not eligible for staff discounts. ie. Continuing Education courses.

Co-Curricular Record

CSEP experience will automatically be added to your CCR.  For more information about your CCR and how it can enhance your time at Mohawk College, visit the CCR website.
