How To Use This Collection
What is the Exemplar Collection?
Welcome to the Rethinking Assessment Strategies for Online Learning – Exemplar Collection. We have compiled a collection of sample authentic and alternative assessments for your use. These exemplars were generously shared by instructors from various colleges and universities across Ontario. Refer to these exemplars for inspiration as you develop your own authentic and alternative assessments or directly adapt them to your course.
This resource is a companion to Rethinking Assessment Strategies for Online Learning: a short course for post-secondary educators.
Finding and Using Exemplars
The exemplars are organized by subject and listed in the Contents panel in the left-hand menu. Select a subject heading to reveal the exemplars nested within. You can also browse through the exemplars using the Previous and Next buttons located at the bottom of the browser window.
On each exemplar page you will find:
- the assessment title
- the author’s name and affiliated institution,
- recommended course level,
- learning outcomes,
- a summary of the assignment.
For some exemplars, you will find links to the full assignment and grading rubric, if available, at the bottom of the page. Some instructors have opted to record a short video testimonial summarizing their assignment.
We will continue to add to this exemplar collection as more submissions are received. Feel free to check back!
