Solving Fluid Dynamics Problems:  A strategy

  • Sketch the problem.
  • Make reasonable simplifying assumptions (ex., incompressible fluid; gravity may or may not be important).
  • Identify knowns and unknowns.
  • Decide the type of flow: laminar or turbulent.
  • Choose the equation to solve the problem.
  • Substitute known values and find the answer complete with units.
  • Does the answer make sense?
