I am extremely grateful to all those who have made post-secondary education more affordable for Fanshawe College’s Managing Leaders and Leadership students. There are many people who have contributed to this text, beginning with the dozen or so authors who started this journey with their own Open Educational Resources (OER), and who have generously shared their work at no cost to the rest of us. I am thankful that Fanshawe’s leaders have shown their dedication to unlocking potential in ALL their students by creating our own OER Design Studio to help remove financial barriers. The Studio consists of an amazing team providing tremendous patience, guidance, and assistance throughout the OER process. I am especially grateful to Shauna Roch for her unfailing support, especially when she was supposed to be on holiday; somehow, she is able to empower others with just the right mix of encouragement and motivation, and is an example of leadership at its finest! Many thanks to Jenn Ayers for doing a great job of stepping into a brand-new role and keeping this project on track. I am grateful to Tyler Pollard who poured extra hours into checking references and instructional design – thank you for your keen eye and thoughtful advice as we both took a stab at something totally new. Alyssa Giles did a fabulous job on the graphics and Davandra Earle created incredible PowerPoint slides – I sincerely appreciate the difference their talents have made to this book. Melanie Mitchell Sparkes, Robert Armstrong and Wilson Poulter have made significant contributions of instructional design, graphics, and source-checking – thank you! I am grateful to the dean of my department, Mary Pierce, who provided me with time and encouragement to make this OER possible. A huge thank you to my husband and family for their constant support and encouragement to pursue my goals.

Finally, I am extremely grateful for the students who show up, eager to learn, share, reflect, work and grow into the best leaders they can be – both personally and professionally. You are an inspiration to me every day, and I look forward to your contributions to this textbook as we go forward together. To all those who read this book, I am grateful you are taking the time to reflect on how you influence and lead those around you every day, and hope it will help you lift and empower you and those you associate with. Thank you in advance for your comments and suggestions as to how improve the content going forward.
