Lesson Planning

Regardless of what or where you teach, lesson planning can help you enhance your students’ learning.

BOPPPS

The lesson planning model we use in the ISW has six core elements that are relevant regardless of the content and setting. You will be expected to use this model throughout all three of your mini-lessons.

BOPPPS Lesson Planning

BOPPPS is one method of lesson planning that has substantial support for engaging students in meaningful learning experiences. The six elements of this model are listed below:

  • Bridge-In
  • Outcome
  • Pre-test
  • Participatory Learning
  • Post-test
  • Summary

These components don’t necessarily need to be presented in this order, and some aspects of your lessons may be iterative or cyclical. For example, you might start with a pre-test, then bridge-in; or you might do a summary before a post-test. Often, in longer lessons, you will revisit the components several times as you switch topics, build on ideas, etc.
