FIELDWORK PLACEMENT OVERVIEW

This manual has been created to provide information to students and the placement Clinical Supervisor (therapist and/or therapist assistant) regarding the Occupational Therapist Assistant & Physiotherapist Assistant fieldwork experience. Fieldwork placements are an opportunity for students to apply knowledge and strengthen clinical skills learned in class and labs and are a highly valued part of the curriculum.

Students are required to successfully complete all course requirements to be eligible for placement. See our program curriculum (model route and course outlines) for a complete description of the courses students have already completed and are currently enrolled in.  Communication between students, Clinical Supervisors and college faculty is always encouraged. In order to facilitate this, the student has provided consent for faculty and clinicians to discuss issues related to their progress.

Each student on placement will have a Faculty Advisor who will support him/her during placement and assign the final grade using the evaluations received from the Clinical Supervisor, as well as, other course work. Faculty Advisors will offer one (virtual) site visit in Semester 3 and 4, to connect with the student and Clinical Supervisor; however, are available for consultation as requested throughout the student’s placement. The site visit typically occurs half way through the placement (at mid-term). The date and time for the visit will be arranged with the Clinical Supervisor.
