Placement Site Visits

Purpose & Expectations

Each student at Centennial College is assigned a Faculty Advisor (FA), whose role is to support the student and Clinical Supervisor (CS) during the placement.

Please note that during the pandemic, visits are likely to be virtual. The FA completes one site visit in semester 3 and 4, during the placement (unless otherwise requested). The date and time of the visit will be communicated to the student, who is expected to share the details of the visit with the CS and notify the FA of any conflicts so that it may be re- scheduled accordingly.

The goal and general purpose of the Placement Site Visit is to:

  •  Connect with the student and discuss their progress from their perspective encouraging reflective practices. Here, the FA will review the assignments, documentation and evaluations.
  • Connect with the CS to discuss student progress, address any concerns and answer questions regarding the program, placement, placement evaluation forms etc.

Site Visit Structure

  • The site visit typically lasts approximately 30-45 minutes.
  • The visit is not mandatory for the CS although we strongly encourage this as a means to check in on student progress, identify any additional student learning needs that would maximize the clinical experience and support the clinical teaching role as necessary.
  • Generally speaking, the FA may meet with the student first and then the CS, who can choose to meet privately with the FA or in collaboration with the student. Meetings can take place anywhere, although somewhere private is preferred.

The student is expected to:

    •  Ensure the site visit date/time is convenient for the CS and notify the FA immediately if it is not suitable so that it may be re-scheduled.
      •  Ensure all necessary documents are available at the time of the visit.
Record of Clinical Experiences (consisting of the “Practical Skills Reflective Assignment”, “Clinical Documentation”, and “Daily/Weekly Log” from the Student Placement Manual)
    • To Communicate an initial meeting place within the facility to meet the FA upon arrival, a minimum of two days before the visit is scheduled to take place.
    • Arrange for a place to meet with the FA that support confidentiality, and that meets the CS’s approval.
    • Students will orient the FA to the unit(s), client population and practice area, as required.
