Roles and Responsibilities of Key Stakeholders During Fieldwork Placements

STUDENT ROLES

SUPERVISOR ROLES

Clinical Supervisors are to progress the student from basic practice principles and techniques to “entry level” within the area of practice. Please note that Centennial College attempts to provide a variety of placement types and students may be in second year of their training however, they may be experiencing a particular area of practice (e.g. acute medicine) for the first time on this placement. This student’s development will therefore represent a basics-to-entry-level progression pattern despite their status within the program overall.

*If you are new to being a clinical supervisor (or would like a refresh), Western University has a free, 8 module Preceptor Education Program (PEP) that shares tips on how to plan and prepare an engaging orientation for your student, provide feedback and conflict management, as well as has activities, exercises, resources and tools to help optimize learning on placement.  For more information or to complete the PEP check out the Preceptor Education Program for Health Professionals and Students
