CODEfest

CODEfest is a yearly summer event run by the Industry Education Council (IEC) in Partnership with Mohawk College. Grade seven and eight students are given the chance to complete interactive, hands-on coding activities. The goal of this event is to make students aware of their education and career options to pursue a career within the tech industry.

Throughout the month of June, students will complete activities using different open-source resources including designing a video game, programming, creating a web page, and more. Each activity is tied to a potential career, earning potential, and the Mohawk Colleg programs a student could complete to pursue the career.

For the last two years, CODEfest has run virtually, consisting of multiple weeks of activities including self-paced weekly challenges. Students were also able to work through the challenges and complete optional challenges through Zoom sessions with Mohawk College and IC mentors. Prior to this change, CODEfest was held at Mohawk College and included coding activities, tours of different labs, and in-person computer science activities. For 2022, this will be a virtual opportunity.
