6 Curating Resources

When selecting, organizing, preparing presentation materials for teaching, and evaluations for your course, make the McMaster Library your first stop. Here we highlight some key resources to support business courses.

Linkedin Learning

LinkedIn Learning (LiL)  (formerly Lynda.com)

LiL is a web-based service that offers over 130,000 video training courses taught by experts in software, creative, IT, and business skills.

Useful resources include:

HSTalks

Henry Stewart Talks: Business & Management Collection (HSTalks)

HSTalks has over 1,400 multimedia lectures, case studies and interviews from scholars and expert practitioners. HSTalks also contains 20 peer-reviewed vocational journals such as Journal of Brand Strategy  and Applied Marketing Analytics.

Open Educational Resources (OER)

“Open educational resources are learning, teaching and research materials in any format and medium that reside in the public domain or are under copyright that have been released under open license, that permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation and redistribution by others. ” (Unesco)

When using open educational materials, note the type of licensing so you know how you can use them in your course. The six Creative Commons Licensing types are:

  • CC BY: Requires crediting author and allows to distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon one’s work, even commercially.

Faculty OER Toolkit by Shannon Moist is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, except where otherwise noted.
  • CC BY-SA: Same as CC BY, but also requires new work to be licensed as CC BY-SA.
  • CC BY-ND: Requires crediting author and redistribution, commercial and non-commercial, but without changing original work.
  • CC BY-NC: Requires crediting author and allows to distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon one’s work, but only for non-commercial purposes.
  • CC BY-NC-SA: Same as previous one, but also requires new work to be licensed as CC BY-NC-SA.
  • CC BY-NC-ND: Requires crediting author and allows for download and sharing of material if the work is not changed or used commercially.
