Academic Writing text description

Academic Writing

As a rule, academic writers should aim for:

Argumentations, represented by two chat bubbles

Think through how to best present your evidence so that it convinces the reader that your argument has merit.

Precision, represented by a target

Seek out the most applicable word choices.

Clarity, represented be a magnifying glass

Academic writing is not about writing the longest sentence possible. The goal is to express your argument as clearly as possible, so avoid using unnecessarily complex sentence structures.

Explicitness, represented by a megaphone

Define specialist language and terms unless they are irrefutable canonical terms of the discipline. Use the same terms throughout.

Objectivity, represented by a stick person standing large in front of two smaller stick figures

Keep personal feelings and voice minimal, depending on discipline and methodology.
