Appendix for Instructors

FUNDAMENTALS OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: A SOURCEBOOK FOR STUDENTS

Assignment creation support

The following appendix has been created to help instructors more readily create assignments in support of learning with the Pressbook Fundamentals of Community Engagement: A Sourcebook for Students.  We suggest that instructors consider assigning 3-4 of the exercises embedded in the sourcebook.

To create flexibility for as many applications as possible, submission functionality is not embedded in the Pressbook. Rather, instructors should require that students submit the answers to the exercises in a separate Word file through their learning management system.

The following is a list of the exercises available in the Pressbook:

Module 1 Exercise 1: Pre-Module Reflection

Module 1 Exercise 2: Reflecting on Your Role in Communities

Module 1 Exercise 3: Matching Activity

Module 1 Exercise 4: Reflecting on Your Feelings About Community-Engaged Learning

Module 2 Exercise 1: Pre-Module Reflection

Module 2 Exercise 2: Using Purposeful Language

Module 2 Exercise 3: Starting a Reflection Assignment

Module 2 Exercise 4: Reflecting Critically

Module 2 Exercise 5: Applying Course Content

Module 2 Exercise 6: Concluding a Reflection Assignment

Module 2 Exercise 7: Module Reflection

Module 2 Exercise 8: Knowledge Check

Module 2 Exercise 9: Mark the Words

Module 3 Exercise 1: Putting the Principles Together

Module 4 Exercise 1: What Would You Do?

Module 4 Exercise 2: Conducting Community-Engaged Work

Module 4 Exercise 3: Following Community-Engaged Work

Instructors might also consider assigning the pre- and post-benchmarking activities that aim to assess knowledge levels prior to and following completing the Pressbook.

Module 1 Benchmarking 1

Conclusion: Benchmarking 1
