Assessment and Grading

Course Assessments

All credit courses have a formal method of evaluation and assessment. Your course outlines will communicate the evaluation scheme for each course, identifying assessment methods (assignments, projects, tests, etc.) that contribute to the final grade. Assessments are designed to evaluate the level at which you demonstrate the established course learning outcomes.

Grading Scheme

The standard grading scheme for most courses is a letter grade ranging from A to F with each letter representing the equivalent percentage grade achieved in the course. Some courses have a Pass/Fail grading scheme. For these courses, a Pass does not impact your GPA but a Fail will. There are also other special grades that can be used for specific purposes.

Due to the rigorous entry to practice requirements for Pharmacy Technicians, many core pharmacy courses require a minimum passing grade of 70%. Please review your course outlines at the start of the semester to ensure that you have an understanding of what the minimum passing grade is for the specific course. Program courses that require a 70% to pass includes:

Semester 1: PHAR115, PHAR118, PHAR131

Semester 2: PHAR123, PHAR124, PHAR126, PHAR132, PHAR220*

Semester 3: PHAR210, PHAR214

Semester 4: PHAR221, PHAR222, PHAR225, PHAR230

*PHAR220 Pharmaceutical Calculations II is graded as either Pass/Fail. Students must achieve a 100% to meet the CCAPP zero tolerance calculations and independent double check requirements.

**May be used in a course where a percentage grade is inappropriate.

Accommodations

Centennial is committed to providing the best possible education for all of our students. This includes meeting the needs of students who may require adjustments or accommodations to equalize their opportunities to meet the essential requirements of achieving the learning outcomes in a course or program.

Pharmacy Technician Program Missed Evaluation Requirement:

If a student is unable to attend a class or a lab on the day of a scheduled evaluation, the student must contact the professor PRIOR to the start of class either via email or by phone to notify them of their absence. The student must then provide their professor with a rationale as to their absence. Failure to notify faculty in advance will result in a zero grade for that evaluation. Under extenuating circumstances, an opportunity to complete a missed evaluation may be permitted at a date and time that will be arranged by the professor. NOTE: There will only be one makeup evaluation per course allowed per student. If more than one evaluation was missed, the student may only makeup the evaluation that has a greater value in weight. Any other missed evaluation(s) will be awarded a grade of zero (0). Students are expected to arrive at the evaluation site on time. No student will be admitted into the evaluation site after 20 minutes from the scheduled time. No student may leave the evaluation site within the first 20 minutes after the evaluation has commenced.

Grade Appeals

You may appeal a grade received in a course only on one of the following grounds:
  • A clerical error has resulted in a miscalculation of the grade.
  • The grade awarded did not fairly reflect your academic performance and/or the stated requirements for the course.
Grade appeals cannot be based on a complaint that the nature and standard of evaluation was too onerous. i.e., you cannot claim that your professor marked too hard or that the assignment/test was too difficult. Follow the procedures for appeal in the Grade Appeals Policy and Procedures. Grade appeals must be made within ten (10) business days of the release of the grade.
