Non-Academic Requirements (NARs)
Once students have completed the Field Placement Prep course, they are prepared for Field Placement. The NAR Student Checklist provides an outline of these non-academic requirements that were completed within the course and need to have in your Field Placement binder for your placement site to review.
Students can check their requirements using the NirvSystem or connecting directly with Preplacement Services at preplacementservices@mohawkcollege.ca.
NirvSystem
Preplacement Services has transitioned to a new database, NirvSystem, to track non-academic requirements (NARs) for placement purposes. Students using the NirvSystem for the first time will receive a Welcome email from nirvsystem@support.com with a link and temporary password to log into account for first time.
Students upload their non-academic requirements to the NirvSystem for review by Preplacement Services and the Preplacement Services Nurse.
Students can also access the NirvSystem by logging into MyMohawk / Academics / Preplacement Services.
Non-Academic Requirements that Expire
As students progress through their field placements or perhaps take some time away from their studies, some of the non-academic requirements need to be updated as they expire within a specified timeframe.
The non-academic requirements that will need updating are:
- Police Clearance – needs to be completed within 6 months of each field placement start date
- WHMIS Training – valid for one year
- Fire Safety Training – valid for one year
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C – valid for 3 years
Updated non-academic requirements need to be submitted to the NirvSystem.
Police Clearance (VSC)
Students are to have a valid Vulnerable Sector Check completed within 6 months of their placement start date. If you need to update your Vulnerable Sector Check, review the form located on MyMohawk/Academics/PreplacementServices for information.
Students who are applying in person for their VSC may need to complete a Police Clearance Request Form which provides proof that your college program requires a VSC for placement allowing you to pay the volunteer / student rate instead of the employee rate which can be a difference of half the cost.
WHMIS and Fire Safety Training
Students who need to update their WHMIS or Fire Safety training can review the Health & Safety Training pdf for information on where and how to complete the training. WHMIS and Fire Safety training need to be updated annually. There is no cost to this training.
If you are not sure when you last completed your WHMIS and/or Fire Safety training, check the completion date on your certificates or Preplacement Services can assist you at preplacementservices@mohawkcollege.ca.
Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
Standard First Aid and CPR-C training expires after 3 years. Students who need to update their training can review the Standard First Aid and CPR-C pdf for more information. Please note that Standard First Aid and CPR-C completed fully online is not accepted.
