Case Study: Is the CHRP/CHRL designation worth it?

Experience and education are important in human resources.  A designation is also vital for many reasons.  A designation validates to employers that you have expertise in the profession.  Completing a designation shows employers that you are committed to the profession as it takes time and effort.  Employees can secure higher-paying positions with designations (HRPA, 2021).  Perhaps most importantly, it lends a personal sense of achievement and pride.

To learn more about the personal and professional benefits of designations, read the interviews in the article linked below.

Questions

  1.  Think about the reasons you would pursue a designation.  Share with a partner.
  2. If you were speaking to a person thinking about a career in Human Resources, what would you want to share with them?  Write out a script.  Share with a partner.
  3. As you consider completing a designation, form questions you might have that you would want to ask an HR Professional who has completed a designation.  Share with a large group (to ensure all questions are presented, and you can add questions that you may not have thought about.)
