This week, we will explore the effects of racism on our Canadian education system. What challenges hinder our ability to criticize education in the same way we are able to criticize the penal/judicial systems? What role has race played in your own experiences with Canadian education?

On Tuesday, you will complete two reading, watch one video, and listen to a podcast.

On Thursday, we will come together to discuss the social construction of race as it relates to the historical notion of Canada’s racial benevolence, and the experiences of racialized people within Canada’s education system. In preparation, you will be asked to read two articles and consider some questions to be discussed in class.
