15 Step 5: Final class-wide session
If you have allocated time in your course schedules for additional inter-institution meetings, it would be important to remind students of these scheduled sessions especially if they are outside of typical class time. As you may not know when your students will be available prior to the start of the Virtual Exchange, we encourage you and your partner to have a conversation with students or using a scheduling software such as Doodle or When2Meet at the beginning of the Virtual Exchange to find a time that works best for your classes. In finding this time, flexibility among all individuals is key and providing alternative methods of engagement is also important in the event some students can not attend the synchronous session. For example, in one of our Virtual Exchanges, we scheduled a synchronous pitch competition at the end of our collaboration. Unfortunately, not every student and member of the instructional was available during that time, despite our efforts to accommodate everyone. Some individuals attended late, some had to leave early, and some could not attend at all. To accommodate, we asked every group to submit a recorded video of their pitch in advance of this final event and for individuals to watch these recordings and to ask their questions in our shared LMS.
