7 Step 4: Meet with & choose a Virtual Exchange partner

After initial correspondence/meeting with your potential partner, you may find yourself at the crossroad of making the final decision to proceed. Choosing the right collaborator with whom to coordinate and co-teach your course is vital to ensuring a successful Virtual Exchange. There are several factors to consider when deciding on a partner:

Factors

1. Do you share an aligned understanding of the learning goals, pedagogy, and outcomes for the collaboration and for each other’s course in general?

2. Is there a sense of trust among partners that each can and will deliver on an agreed-upon plan?

3. Is there indication that both partners are prepared to be flexible and responsive as plans may have to be adapted? (as can often be the case with Virtual Exchanges and collaborations)

Being explicit with your potential partner can help you make an informed decision.

If you can comfortably answer yes to these 3 questions and have duly considered the preceding steps, it is time to plan!
