Book Description
Grounded in liberatory pedagogic frameworks, this anthology of readings for multilingual writers models genres that Year 1 students are likely to encounter and be asked to produce (the research essay, the critical reflection, the case analysis, the poem, the personal narrative). Viewing multilingual students through a strengths-based lens, the authors weave exploration of language, identity, and relationships into the discussion of writing-related ideas such as genre, reflexivity, voice, research and citation practices, and writing centre use. The contributions–most of them under four pages in length–adopt a writing-about-writing approach, and are intended to support multilingual university writers as they build critical thinking skills, transferable literacies, and metacognitive understanding of North American approaches to academic writing.
