Understanding and Recognizing Psychological Safety in the Workplace

What does it mean to be psychologically and culturally safe in your workplace? How do you even begin to go about recognizing it?

These are some of the questions you may have when thinking about a topic as broad as psychological and cultural safety. Even when you have a good understanding of the principles, it may be difficult to understand what its effects are or recognize it in your own place of work.

In this lesson, we will be learning about how we can understand the elements and effects of Psychological and Cultural Safety, as well as how to recognize both safe and unsafe work environments.

Learning Goals

By the end of this lesson, I will be able to:

  • Explain the impact of Psychological and Cultural Safety on employee well-being, their associated factors, and how Indigenous employees experience them.
  • Identify indicators and precursors of a psychologically and culturally unsafe environment to raise employee awareness.
