The Impact and Application of Psychological Safety for Indigenous Employees

What do you think of when you see the following statement:

MY WORKPLACE IS UNSAFE

Many people may think of physical hazards such as dangerous job requirements, improper storing of chemicals, or improper regulations on working with hazardous machinery.

But these are only characteristics of a physically unsafe environment. Work environments can be psychologically and culturally unsafe as well, and this can have long-standing impacts on employees who experience these unsafe environments.

In this lesson, we will be learning about the impacts that psychological and cultural safety can have on employees and organizations, as well as the application of psychologically and culturally safe practices within professional life.

Learning Goals

By the end of this lesson, I will be able to:

  • Recognize the consequences of Psychological and Cultural Safety at both individual and organizational levels in the workplace.
  • Offer practical strategies for promoting Psychological and Cultural Safety in employees’ everyday communication and behaviour.
