Introduction
Welcome to the Physics 1D03 labs! In this course, you will have weekly labs during the date and time indicated on your Mosaic schedule. You will work on building data analysis and interpretation skills, and explore physics concepts in more detail.
During each lab session, you will work in pairs. There will be checkpoints throughout the lab where you will be asked to discuss some of your findings or predictions with your lab TAs. Before the lab ends, you and your lab partner will submit your lab report to the Crowdmark platform as a group. So whoever is submitting the report must make sure to add their lab partner to the report on Crowdmark before hitting the submit button. Ask your lab TAs for help if you don’t know how this is done.
During the labs, we expect you to take an active role in your learning. Make sure that you are taking opportunities to work with the equipment and explore, to share ideas with your lab partner, and to ask any questions that you have.
Please use the Contents option on the left to navigate through the lab manual. Each lab starts with a section named “Before You Start” that includes a checklist of what you should do before going to your lab.
Before your first lab
Before your first lab, please click on Engineer_Reference_Material_final to read the Laboratory Manual – Reference Material Including Uncertainty and Graphing. You will need the information in this document for the labs. Also, your first Loncapa assignment is on Uncertainties and Significant Figures which are explained in this document (sections 4.1-4.5). Here is a short summary of formulas to calculate uncertainties for various functions, based on the above document. Please read the full document for more details and examples.
