A Note About Publishing

Note

If publishing is new to you, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Writing is not a linear process; it is recursive, meaning you may return to previously completed steps, which is ok!
  • You can always change how you do something for the next project or iteration.
  • Don’t try to accomplish all your goals the first time around. It is important to refer to your scope document.
  • Take a break when you need to.
  • Try to seek collaborators who can work with uncertainty, especially initially.
  • Go easy on yourself, especially if you’re new at this!
  • Ask others for help.

We use Pressbooks to create and publish OER. In the development phase of your project, you’ll become more familiar with Pressbooks and how it works. You are free to choose whatever software works for you for your draft content. Most authors use Microsoft Word (365) or Google Docs to draft their content as this allows collaboration with the Studio team. If you have questions for the team you can simply make a comment or a note in the collaborative draft document.
