What are the Digital Humanities?

Defining the Digital Humanities (DH) is not an easy or straightforward task.  It is a field that suffers from a “definition addiction” (Callaway et al., 2020).  In fact, defining the digital humanities has becoming something of a genre in itself (Callaway et al., 2020), (Kaplan, 2015), where textual analysis, a common activity in the digital humanities, was performed on various definitions of DH.  The DH definition problem has been acknowledged by researchers in the field (M. G. Kirschenbaum, 2016).

 

However, before embarking on any field of study, one must have at least some concept of the subject being studied.  In lieu of attempting to develop a new, comprehensive and universally accepted definition, a few representative definitions are given below.
