Clinical Pathway Summary
The virtual simulation game has taken the user through the general steps in identifying abnormal respiratory status in a newborn and the required steps for intervention that the undergraduate nurse should take to ensure safe practice for the newborn.
Hospitals have specific clinical pathways to guide the nurse through normal and abnormal findings procedures.
When abnormal findings in an assessment are identified, it is the responsibility of the nurse to acknowledge which value(s) and components are abnormal, intervene immediately depending on severity and further investigate through notification of MD and required allied health professionals (ie. Respiratory Therapist (RT)) and adequately document findings to ensure proper follow-up and transfer of findings.
