Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of the simulation, students will be able to:
- Identify the critical components of a neonatal assessment and demonstrate best practice for conducting a vital and head-to-toe assessment on a newborn
- Identify the changes that occur during the transition from intrauterine to extra uterine life and potential complications
- Identify respiratory deterioration of a neonate and comprehend the implications for health and safety
- Critically analyze situations, identify when assistance is required and implement interventions in a safe, timely and collaborative manner
- Utilize health information systems and charting paper records (where required) to document patient interactions, assessments and interventions appropriately
