Understanding Your Course Code

Understanding Your Course Code

Your Course Code contains a lot of information that can tell you about your course.

There are 4 sections to your code:

WRIT-1030-03-18FSample Course Code

Component 1 – XXXX

The first section is 4 letters that indicate the subject area.  WRIT or COMM, for example.

Component 2 – ####

This is followed by 4 numbers that tell you which course it is.

Component 3 – ##

This is your section number.  It tells you which sections of this particular course you are teaching and your delivery method.

You must include this number when communicating with support staff, as we won’t be able to assist you unless we know which section your class is; for example, there are 26 different classes for WRIT-1032.

The section number also gives you information about the delivery mode of the course.

  • Section numbers from 1-20 indicate a web-enhanced delivery
  • Section numbers from 60-79 indicate a blended delivery
  • Section numbers from 40-59 indicate an online delivery

Component 4 – ##X

This is your term code.  It lets you know which academic term the course is offered in, and this becomes important if you teach the same course multiple times or are looking for a past period.
