The Impact and Application of Relational Communication in the Workplace

Think about the following question and write your answer in the box provided below:

Although Canada has had an oppressive attitude towards Indigenous peoples in the past, the most recent century has seen the birth of legislature directed to facilitate the reconciliation of Indigenous peoples in Canada (Conrad, 2022). Perhaps one of the most important of these has been the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, which is seen as a cornerstone of reconciliation advancement. This set of guideline highlights an important notion: that much of the legislation has been aimed towards righting our wrongs, rather than promoting our future.

To make a more impactful future, it is important to connect with the people rather than solely the peoples. In other words, we must know how to connect on a personal level if we are to earn the trust that is ever so vital in communication.

We have thus far discussed the root of communicative differences, as well as five examples of nonverbal communication. This section looks at how these differences and domains may be seen in Indigenous communication.
