Note: we will cover this section closer to the second half of the course.
At this point, you should already know the three most common ways to say ‘bye’ in German:
- Auf Wiedersehen! (formal, in person)
- Tschüß! (informal, in person)
- Auf Wiederhören! (on the phone)
However, there are a few other ways to bis farewell that you must know, especially this one:
bis + any moment in time = until + any moment in time:
- bis morgen! = see you tomorrow!
- bis später! = see you later!
- bis gleich! = see you very soon!
- bis nachher! = see you afterward!
- bis bald! = see you soon!
- bis Montag! (or any other weekday) = see you on Monday! (or any other weekday)
Finally, here are a couple more farewells you are likely to hear. These ones are mostly informal.
- Ciao! = Bye!
- Alles Gute = All the best!
- Man sieht sich! = See you around!
- Viel Glück = Good luck!
- Mach’s gut = Take care!
