Use these question prompts to turn your academic projects and larger assignments into clear, impactful examples for interviews, cover letters, or applications. Each section follows the STAR format to help you explain what you did, how you did it, and what impact you made.

1. SITUATION: Setting the Scene
Provide a snapshot of the project.

  • Who was your target audience? Describe their demographics, preferences, and behaviors.
  • What were you expected to deliver or achieve? Outline any specific deliverables or outcomes.

3. ACTION: How You Tackled It
Describe the strategies, tools, and process you used to meet your goals.

  • Which marketing strategies did you implement? (e.g., social media, SEO, content marketing)
  • What tools or platforms did you use? (e.g., Hootsuite, HubSpot, Google Analytics, Canva)
  • How did you learn to use them?
  • How did you apply the data or insights from them?
  • Did you conduct any research?
  • If yes, what methods did you use? (e.g., surveys, competitive analysis, SWOT)
  • How did research shape your strategy?

4. RESULT: Showcasing the Impact

Highlight the outcomes of your project.

  • What changed as a result of your work? (e.g., increased engagement, more traffic, better insights)
  • How did you measure success? (e.g., metrics, KPIs, audience feedback)
  • What did you learn or improve? Any new skills or key takeaways?

5. REFLECTION: Applying Your Experience to the Real World
Connect your project to marketing careers and continuous improvement.

  • How does this project reflect what marketers do in industry?
  • Which job-ready skills did you develop? (e.g., collaboration, analytics, copywriting, campaign planning)
  • What would you do differently next time? (If given more time, budget, or team support)

6. INTERVIEW PREPARATION:
Use your project analysis to prepare for common behavioural interview questions:

  • Tell me about a time you worked on a marketing campaign.
  • Describe a situation where you used data to guide marketing decisions.
  • How do you evaluate whether a marketing strategy is working?
