Glossary

Cynicism: an attitude to life  similar to nihilistic skepticism; however, it embodies an element of pessimism toward everyday occurrences that may ignore the objective truth.

Legal culpability: is blame involving the commission of a fault or the breach of a duty imposed by law.

Moral culpability: is blame that is given to a person who understood that their actions and the consequences of those actions were evil at the time that the acts were committed. To be morally culpable, a person also has to have had control over the situation in which the act was committed.

Nihilistic skepticism: essentially an attitude of skepticism in which there is no basis for “objective moral judgment” (Kurtz, 2010, p.15).

Skepticism: refers to critical thinking, which allows us to question commonly held beliefs that may not be true.
