9 Assessment that supports CREATE domain knowledge

“Assessment is todays means of modifying tomorrows instruction.”

– Carol Ann Tomlinson

Benefit of assessing CREATE

Does your course (or the course that will follow your course) require learners to be able to take elements/concepts introduced in your course and use them to form a new or functional whole? Assessing this ability, produces evidence of the degree to which competence is achieved helps a learner to identify area for further development and/or corrective action.

Some of the ways the CREATE level can be accomplished could ask a learner to;

  • design a set for an upcoming theater production,
  • write a thesis,
  • reframe criteria given to develop an alternative hypothesis, or
  • invent a product/develop a prototype.

Assessment options OF/AS/FOR Create

I’ve provided a handful of options, as examples and activities, for you to see ways we can embed the experience of learning in online courses. CREATE is the highest form of knowing and doing. Please share, as a final activity, one activity/assessment that you already have in your course or want to create (;-)) that’ll help your students experience this level of learning.
