Welcome and Toolkit Overview
Welcome Message
Hello and welcome! You are about to embark on a transformative learning journey that explores what changemaking and socially innovative teaching and learning can look, sound, and feel like. Whether you are a tenured post-secondary faculty member immersed in changemaking education, a newly hired course instructor interested in learning more about changemaking education, an elementary or secondary school teacher looking to grow your pedagogical practices, an early childhood educator curious about doing this work with young learners, or an individual working in community with learners, this resource was designed with you in mind.
Toolkit Overview
We are so excited to share this learning journey with you as you consider how to support your learners develop the skills and mindsets needed to thrive and flourish in a rapidly changing 21st century context, and in a way that is meaningful for both them and you. This toolkit is not designed to be prescriptive, but rather meet you in the here and now, where you are, as you engage with complex questions, issues, and challenges. Though we may, at times, refer to specific stages or groups of learners (i.e., preschoolers, elementary, secondary, post-secondary learners), the contents and activities woven throughout each module can support learners of any age or stage. This toolkit truly is for educators and community members working with learners from kindergarten through post-secondary education, formally and informally, interested in learning more about manifesting as a changemaker.
The four distinct modules that comprise the Manifesting as a Changemaker toolkit are described below. Click on each label to learn more. This work also foregrounds the Manifesting as a Changemaker model that you will learn about in the next section.
Each module also contains interactive learning opportunities that invite you to observe and reflect on yourself and your learners. You are encouraged to engage with the reflective portions of the modules in a way that works best for you. Modules also include additional learning resources where you can dive deeper into specific topics.
Thumb Ball Ice Breaker
As a way to kick things off and build community, take a minute to spin our digital thumb ball ice breaker wheel, a digital version of a traditional thumb ball tool. When you are done, head over to our Thumb Ball Padlet to share your answer! *Note: The digital Thumb Ball Wheel was created by Adam Dagenais, Community Impact Lab Coordinator at Georgian College.
