Introduction

About the Resource

The Conestoga English Language Reader (CELR, pronounced “seller”) series is a collection of readers for the Conestoga English Language Program. The front cover of each reader displays the front door of a faculty member’s home. It is a reminder that reading opens the door of opportunity. Reading broadens our imagination, informs our lives and allows ideas to flow in multiple directions.

CELR1 is appropriate for high beginner English language learners. The vocabulary lists are a combination of high frequency and academic words. The articles included in this series are based on various topics relevant to the newcomer experience in Ontario, Canada. They are meant to educate, entertain, and inspire the reader as they start their language learning journey.

Readers are invited to provide feedback on this Open Educational Resource and share any concerns, suggestions, errata notes, or ideas for enhancements with the Open Learning Team at Conestoga College.
