Chapter 3: Get Involved in College Life!

Read
Many people think that being a good student means good marks. That is not 100% true. Additional activities, or co-curricular activities, also make college students successful. Co-curricular activities are good for students. Students can meet new people. Students can practise English skills. Students can learn new things.
It is simple to join co-curricular activities. Students can attend campus events. Campus events are workshops, career fairs, and celebrations. Workshops build career skills. One career skill is public speaking. Another career skill is resumé writing. These skills can connect to class. Workshops are often free. Career fairs and celebrations are free too. They often provide free food and gifts. People like free food. People like free gifts. More people will come to the event! One-time events are quick and easy. Students can meet other students easily.
Students can join a club. Clubs often run for one semester. Colleges have a variety of clubs. Here are two examples. Some students enjoy technology. A Tech Club is good for them. Other people want to connect with humans. Conversation Clubs are good for them. Clubs meet regularly. Sometimes they plan special events. They do not require any experience or skills. Students can explore their interests.
The Recreation Centre has fun activities. Basketball is a team sport. Soccer is a team sport, too. Playing sports relieves stress. The Recreation Centre also has activities that you can do without a team, such as exercise classes. These activities improve social life. These activities improve health.
Students can be leaders. They can be in the student government. Student governments can change college rules. Students can also be peer helpers. Peer helpers support other students. These volunteer jobs build leadership skills. Employers like good leaders. Sometimes a person does not want to be the leader. They can get involved in events such as food drives. They can contribute to events such as cleaning days in a park. It is good to work with strong leaders. There is a lot to learn.
Colleges offer several co-curricular activities. These activities suit many interests. Students complete interesting tasks. The tasks help them grow personally. The tasks can connect to their career. It is important to research different clubs and events. It is important to join in the fun part of college life!
