1.4 – Summary
Chapter 1 provided a brief overview of the different biomedical equipment that you will be working with in this course, in this program or potentially on the job site. We also provided a basic description of how biomedical equipment interacts with the human body by receiving sensory input, acting upon that signal and providing feedback. These machines can get quite complicated when multiple sensors and functions are involved (think hemodialysis machine). We then discussed the general classification of biomedical equipment and the various symbols found on devices and the colouring and labels of wires found in devices. This will lead us into Chapter 2 where we discuss electrical safety and how to safely interact with biomedical equipment.
