The courses required for completion of your program are outlined in your model route. Every program has a set of courses that you are required to successfully complete in order to graduate from the program. Your model route shows the sequence of courses by semester that you are required to take, including experiential learning (e.g., work terms and field placements). Your model route also shows any pre-requisites and co-requisites. You will be expected to complete the courses and other requirements outlined in the model route that was in effect when you began your program unless there are program changes (program changes will be communicated to you).

Your Model Route: Questions

What are General Education courses?

General Education courses contribute to the development of citizens who are conscious of the diversity, complexity and richness of the human experience Through General Education courses, students engage in learning that exposes them to at least one discipline outside their main field of study and increases their awareness of the society and culture in which they live and work.

What is GNED500?

Students in Diploma and Advanced Diploma programs are required to take one College-mandated General Education course: GNED 500 Global Citizenship: From Social Analysis to Social Action. This course is linked to our distinctive College Signature Learning Experience focused on global citizenship, equity, inclusion, and social justice. Any other General Education courses that are required in the program are elective choices.

What are Liberal Studies courses?

Liberal Studies courses in degree programs are those that contribute to the knowledge in fields outside of the program’s main field of study. They contribute to the achievement of critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, written and oral communication skills, knowledge of society and culture, and skills relevant to civic engagement.

What is a pre-requisite?

A pre-requisite is a course that you must take before taking other courses. If there are any, all pre-requisite courses are clearly stated on your Program Model Route and on the course outline.

What is a co-requisite?

A co-requisite is a course that is dependent on another course and must be taken in the same semester. If you fail one of the identified courses, you may be required to repeat the other course(s) as well. All co-requisite courses are stated on your Program Model Route and on the course outline.

Your Model Route

Your program model route is developed in a table format that shows, by semester, all the courses that you are required to take to successfully complete your program, the hours for each course, pre-requisites, co-requisites, and any minimum grade requirements that exceed the College standards of 50%. The current program model for this program is below. Please note that the passing grade for AMHW courses is 60%.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS A STUDENT

It is your responsibility to know and understand their program model route and program expectations.

This includes the following:

  • Know when your courses are offered during academic year
  • Know which pre requisites are needed in order to move forward, especially for field placement
  • Know what minimum grades are required for each course
  • Know COMM (English) requirements
  • Check your grades for every assignment submitted and final grades at end of every semester

DEGREE AUDIT

You can view your model route by doing a degree audit. This allows you to see which courses you’ve completed and which are outstanding:  Here are graphic instructions on how to do a degree audit: https://p.widencdn.net/ygabwt/how-to-run-a-degree-audit
