Experiential Learning Requirements
Experiential Learning “supports students in gaining hands-on learning that helps them transition to employment”[1]. Experiential Learning can take the form of co-operative education, degree work placement, clinical/field placement, fieldwork/simulation labs, capstone/applied research projects, and service learning.
Field Placement Requirements:
In order to complete the WWHP field placement, students must submit the following completed and approved paperwork prior to the established due dates. Failure to do so may delay placement start/completion dates and also may require students to find alternative sites to complete their placement experience.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check)
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level ‘C’ with AED or higher
- Health Forms (not necessary for all it is dependent on your placement selections)
- Clear CIC documents for International Students- including co-op work permit (needs to be clear before November 30th to continue to placement in semester 2
All clinical placement requirements must be valid for your entire placement semester (they can not expire before you are done your placement). CPR must be renewed on an annual basis regardless of the expiry date provided on your card. Information on the clinical requirements for your specific program, and the instructions for submission of those requirements, can be found at:

Upon completion of the application / interview processes, students and sites rank their preferences. It is the program faculty’s responsibility to match the students with the appropriate organization. Generally, there are 2 rounds and any student not being placed in the first round will automatically begin the process again. Students and sites available in the second round is in no way is reflective of the level of performance or desirability of student or site.
Students must submit copies of their CPR/First Aid and Clear Vulnerable Sector Screening, Health Forms and CIC (if applicable) by the due dates in order to be eligible to be included in the placement selection process. Failure to do so will result in a delay of study and possibly graduation.
Each student on placement will have a faculty advisor who will support him/her during placement and will visit as required (minimum one visit) and assign the final grade using the evaluations received from the placement supervisor and other assigned course work. Faculty will be available for consultation as requested throughout the student’s placement experience.
Students will adhere to the dress code established by the placement site.
The status of clinical/field placements and co-op work terms will be subject to public health directives and the reopening plan. Students may complete their placement requirements at sites that are permitted to open, either onsite, following appropriate health and safety protocols, or remotely. Students will be asked to read and sign a Student Informed Consent form in order to ensure that they understand their rights and the potential health and safety risks. Similarly, employers and/or placement hosts will be required to complete an Employer/Placement Health and Safety Site Checklist.
If workplaces are not permitted to open, placements and work terms may be completed remotely where feasible. In programs where placements or unpaid internships can not be facilitated through alternative/distance models, students will be allowed to complete these components at a later date.
