3 Work Placement Standards
Standards for Work Placement:
As a reminder, the goal of the work placement opportunity is to support experiences for learners to gain exposure to the administrative role and the role of health professionals in a healthcare setting. To ensure placement opportunities are meeting the intended goal the health services program placement team will validate a placement meets the following requirements:
- Non-paid. Under no circumstance will pay hours be counted toward placement hours.
- Comprises administrative procedures, tasks, and duties.
- Placement setting provides opportunities for applying practices and procedures learned during the program. These practices and procedures will align with knowledge and skills competencies for health services administrative professionals.
- Is a healthcare setting (settings outside of healthcare such as general business offices will be considered if they meet administrative skills standards).
- Support is available to practice and perform skills in a safe manner that minimizes risk to client/patient/customer, self, and others.
- Placement will be supervised through the work placement host with the learner adhering to host policies and procedures.
- Feedback is provided to the learner through oral or written mechanisms during and/or at the conclusion of the placement experience.
- A workspace area is available for the learner.
