Student Role in Placement

Supporting success of this activity requires identification of the roles and responsibilities of the participants involves in the placement experience.

  • Participate actively in the preparation process for placement; attain all academic (ap) and non-academic (nap) requirements as presented in placement information provided, secure eligibility for placement following the timelines set out by the Placement Coordinator and in alignment with work placement host requirements.
  • Attend and participate in all pre-placement and post placement mandatory meetings.
  • Communication is absolutely essential for making this work.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the work placement host offering the placement.
  • Attend the placement for the duration of the placement host hours and complete the set number of days of the placement. Classes cannot be missed for this purpose.
  • If you need to be absent for a placement, you must notify the work placement host using the method outlined by the host and prior to the scheduled shift.
  • Any deviation of placement schedule must be discussed with the placement host directly and notify Placement Coordinator within 24 hours of any changes.
  • If there are more than 2 absences in your work placement schedule a meeting will be a requirement with the Placement Coordinator to discuss progress through placement.
  • Notify Placement Host Supervisor and Placement Coordinator of any significant change in their personal or professional circumstances which may impact on their practice or participation.
  • Proactively identify own learning needs and opportunities and make full use of all available learning opportunities. Identify steps for resolution.
  • Consistently demonstrate professional behaviour as outlined in the student code of conduct as identified in the placement information package.
  • During placement, notify Placement Coordinator immediately involving any situation occurring which you perceive to be uncomfortable, unsafe, or threatening.
  • Proactively arrange to complete all relevant paperwork prior to and after the placement.
  • Seek appropriate support, guidance, and supervision.
  • Develop as a reflective practitioner using verbal and written feedback to improve or adapt practice
