Benefits and Challenges

This module provides content and activities aimed at assisting you in understanding the role of WIL in your academic and professional growth. You will look over the potential advantages and challenges associated with participating in WIL.

WIL Benefits

  • Offer hands-on work opportunities
  • Combine theoretical knowledge with practical application
  • Explore various careers or industries
  • Enhance the quality of your resume or CV
  • Ease the shift from education to employment
  • Enhance the skill set of graduates entering the workforce

WIL Benefits in Education:

Work integrated learning (WIL) is getting more important in college. There are many reasons why it’s good for students. It helps you learn new skills, get real-world experience, and use what you learn in class in a practical way. WIL also helps you see if a job or industry is right for you. After you finish, you can use the skills and experiences from WIL to make your resume stronger, which helps when you’re looking for a job. For companies, having graduates with good skills means they don’t need to spend as much time training them, which is good for them.

WIL Challenges in Education:

WIL Challenges

  • Insufficient compensation
  • Unfulfilling tasks
  • Leaving a paying job
  • Absence of workplace guidance
  • Lack of stimulating tasks
  • Difficulty in timely program completion

It’s essential to recognize certain challenges to be prepared. We’ll also encourage you to think about potential solutions to address them within your own WIL, ensuring you maximize the benefits of the experience.
