Learning Overview
Welcome! Why are you here? You may be looking for ways to support your students’ learning in a virtual environment. Perhaps you’ve seen the recent buzz about the science of learning and you want to incorporate these evidence-based strategies into your own teaching. Maybe you’ve noticed your student struggling with their learning and study strategies. After completing this resource, you will be able to:
- Describe the process of learning
- Explain the principles of the science of learning
- Outline how the science of learning principles improve learning
- Identify barriers to using the science of learning
- Use interactive digital learning tools to support the science of learning principles in your courses
Introduction
Students often come to college with little to no knowledge of how to learn effectively as it is not a skill that is explicitly taught in high school. Many students read their textbook repeatedly, write and rewrite pages of outlined notes, or cram the night before a test because they don’t know anything different.

After completing this module, you will be able to:

- Describe the science of learning
- Identify key principles in the science of learning
- Describe how the science of learning improves learning
- Explain how digital tools can be used to support learning
